What are the Ashta Siddhis?

The Ashta siddhis are those supernatural powers that make a person extraordinary. All deities are capable of granting Anima and all other siddhis. However, we should not waste our time trying to attain these powers. We must focus only on progressing on the path of liberation (moksha) or God-realization. Because while walking on that path, the siddhis will automatically come to you.

The Ashta Siddhis chart depicts eight yogic powers. These eight siddhis are Anima, Mahima, Laghima, Garima, Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitva, and Vashitva, written in Hindi and English.

What are the Ashta Siddhis

The eight siddhis are as follows:

  1. Aṇimā (Anima) — The ability to become extremely subtle; to reduce one’s size to the minutest level (as small as an atom).
  2. Mahimā (Mahima) — The power to become immensely large; to expand the body/form to a great size.
  3. Garimā (Garima) — The ability to become extremely heavy; to increase one’s weight significantly.
  4. Laghimā (Laghima) — The power to become weightless or extremely light; almost like floating in the air.
  5. Prāpti (Prapti) — The ability to reach or obtain anything, anywhere, naturally (remote acquisition or access).
  6. Prākāmya (Prakamya) — The power to manifest or realize anything according to one’s will; fulfillment of desires.
  7. Īśitva (Ishitva) — The power of supreme authority or sovereignty; the feeling of dominion or control over something.
  8. Vaśitva (Vashitva) — The power to bring anything or any being under one’s influence; the ability to attract, control, or dominate.
